Political Science Meets Civic Action
Wings Without Borders was created by Suzana Magana Gomez as part of an Equity-Minded Honors Program project at San Joaquin Delta College. The project combines civic education, advocacy, leadership development, and public engagement to help Californians become more informed and active participants in democracy.
As a Political Science student, Suzana wanted to create a resource that bridges the gap between citizens and government while encouraging active participation in democracy. Too many people — especially young people and first-generation students — feel disconnected from the legislative process. This platform was built to change that.
By combining academic research with real-world civic experience — including attending advocacy days at the California State Capitol and meeting with legislative offices — Wings Without Borders became a living demonstration of how education and advocacy work together to empower communities.

Wings Without Borders emerged from the direct experience of participating in civic advocacy at the California State Capitol. As a first-generation college student studying Political Science at the University of the Pacific, Suzana discovered the transformative power of civic engagement — and wanted to share it with others.
This honors project represents the culmination of academic study, personal growth, and a deep commitment to making government accessible to all. Meeting with legislative staff and witnessing the legislative process in action shaped the foundation of this platform.
The goal is simple: every Californian deserves to understand and participate in the democratic process. Wings Without Borders is one step toward making that a reality.
